I get a lot of my personal inspiration from everyday scenery, as well as retro interior designs. From crumbling to glittering, cityscapes are a favorite of mine.
Some of the backgrounds are based on photos that I take, others that I’ve seen and liked, and then made-up scenes too, of course.
In my senior year, I would take the train uptown to the zoo (either Bronx or Central Park) on Monday mornings to study the animals. This gave me the chance to learn their textures, shapes and movements. Winter is the best season to visit - fewer crowds, and different levels of activity among certain animals. Many of these drawings are from life observation with a mix of graphite, colored pencil and watercolor. Since my time at SVA, I have discovered a newfound love of wildlife drawing.
